Expertise built on tradition

Our legacy began more than half a century ago. Back then we were called R.G. Varner Steel Products and Pruden Products. Today we stand over 300 employees strong with nearly 1,000 independent Authorized VP Builders in our network and thousands of projects under our belt. We are proud to continue our company’s long history of growth and innovation, and could not do it without partners like you.

1948

R.G. Varner Steel Products was founded in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. The company would become Varco Steel.

1950

Pruden Products, founded by Clark Prudhon in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin, evolved from manufacturing equipment for farm buildings to producing steel building frames designed to be used with wood secondary framing systems.

1968

Fuqua Industries of Atlanta, Georgia purchased Varco and Pruden, establishing Varco-Pruden Buildings, a metal building subsidiary headquartered in Pine Bluff, Arkansas.

1971

Varco-Pruden Buildings headquarters were moved to Memphis, Tennessee when the company was sold to Dominion Bridge, a subsidiary of AMCA International.

1997

Varco-Pruden Buildings became VP Buildings Inc. and moved it's headquarters to a VP steel-framed building in Memphis, Tennessee.

2008

BlueScope Steel acquired Varco Pruden Buildings, ASC Profiles, SteelScape, and Metl-Span.

2013

Clark Prudhon elected to Metal Construction News Hall of Fame.
