Northwest Harvest is a nonprofit food justice organization in Washington State. The organization needed a new facility to support its important work serving members of the community. The new 200,000-square-foot warehouse and distribution center is the main hub for distribution of nutritious food to all 39 counties in Washington. From this center, food is distributed to more than 400 partners, including many schools and food banks.

The new facility, a Varco Pruden metal building, quadruples the amount of refrigerated storage space Northwest Harvest has available. It includes a 40,000-square-foot freezer, a 100,000-square-foot chilled storage space kept at 40 degrees, and 60,000 square feet of ambient storage, all within the 55-foot tall ridge warehouse building. The building has 17,000 pallet positions for food storage. It has 12 loading docks on both the north and south sides to manage the separate intake and export trucks. From the first steel being erected on the job site to completion, the entire project took 11 months.

The new facility is considered critical infrastructure for fighting food insecurity in the state. It was recognized as a 2023 Hall of Fame “best of category” winner in the Distribution category.
